Latest creation from Jayson Woodbridge

Cherry Pie is another innovative offering from visionary winemaker Jayson Woodbridge, creator of Hundred Acre and Layer Cake Wines. One would think with the myriad winemaking projects that literally take him and his winemaking team around the globe several times each year, that Jayson would be content with his current stable of wines…but he has yearned to make Pinot Noir for years and circumstances finally aligned for him to do just that.

Jayson sought out the owners of Stanly Ranch, on the Napa side of the Carneros appellation, as their grapes were becoming well known as some of the most sought after Pinot Noir grapes in California. They told him they would give him a small allocation to make wine, but future allocations would depend on the quality of the wine he made. They had no idea that was just that kind of challenge that puts Jayson at his best.

After tasting the 2007 Cherry Pie Pinot Noir from the barrel, and deeming it one of the best ever made from their grapes, the owners of the ranch granted him free rein to choose from the very best blocks of the property for his wine. Needless to say, the allocation of fruit is now whatever he asks for.

The 2009 is only the second vintage released. The 2008 won 90 points from Wine Spectator. The 2009 has not been reviewed yet but in our humble opinion, it is at least as good as 2008 if not better!

Through August and September, we are featuring the Cherry Pie Pinot Noir at our bar by the glass. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste this unique and incredibly tasty Pinot Noir while you have the chance. You can also order this wine on-line from our sister website:

Elsa Bianchi New Age from Argentina

We have sold the New Age White over last two summers with a fantastic response from everyone who tried it. This blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Torrontes is an effervescent wine with plenty of citric fruit flavors. It is extremely refreshing, vivacious and sensual.

In addition, this year, we are introducint the New Age Rose, a blend of Malbec and Merlot that is light and fruity with a hint of sweetness and effervescence.

We like to serve both on the rocks with a slice of fruit. Both wines are low in alcohol (9% and 11%) so you can sip it all afternoon without overdoing it. They are great for a backyard barbecue or just relaxing by the pool.

Just in time for the 4th of July weekend, we are offering a fantastic deal.

Now until 4th of July, both the New Age White and Rose is only $9 per bottle ($10 regular price). In addition, if you buy six or more bottles, you get an additional 10% off!

So stock up on this great summer wine and be a hit with all your friends this weekend.

One of our latest discoveries is a bold big Napa Cabernet that is only $22. Made by the venerable Bennet Lane winery using the same grapes that makes up their $35-$50 bottles, this Cabernet opens with intnese black fruit, bright cherry, & minerals. Background notes of cedar, sage and violets add to the complexity of the wine. On the palate the wine has good weight, with flavors of dark cherry, cocoa, and plums. The tannins are velverty and approachable, leading to a long elegant, fruit driven finish.

We introduced this wine couple of months ago and it has been extremely popular at the bar. You purchase the Turn Four Cabernet at the store or save by ordering in advance at our on-line wine store webwine.com and pickup your purchase at the store.

The new 2008 Geyserville is now in stock: Ripe, exotic and loaded with personality. Aromas of ripe blackberry, underbrush and licorice lead to concentrated huckleberry and cracked-pepper beef flavors that finish with lively tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Mataro. 2007 was rated 91 points by Wine Spectator. The 2008 is not yet rated.

The new 2008 Santa Cruz Mountain Chardonnay is also in stock: Combines richness with an elegant, delicate mouthfeel, showing deep layers of ripe fig and green pear, honeydew melon and smoky oak. Balanced, focused, pure and lingering. 2007 was rated 92 points by Wine Spectator. The 2008 is not yet rated. We do have few bottles of the 2007 still left in the store.

Cardwell Hill is one of our favorite wineries. Located in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, the winery is owned by Dan & Nancy Chapel who are Orange County residents. The 2006 Estate Pinot Noir was awarded a score of 91 points and selected as a top 100 wine by Wine Spectator. The 2007 vintage continues the tradition and was awarded a score of 90 points and selected as a Smart Buy from the same magazine.

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a tasting event with Dan & Nancy at our wine bar. During the tasting, they introduced their 2008 Pinot Noir Rose. This is a very elegant rose with a light fruity nose and a hint of strawberry. We think it’s a perfect wine to start off a Holiday feast.

We also feature both the Estate and Reserve Pinot Noir which are two of our favorite Pinot Noirs. And don’t forget their refreshing Pinot Gris made in the classic Oregon style.
