Notes on the wines……….

Kentia Albarino 2016, Rias Baixas – This flavorful white hails from Rias Baixas, the temperate coastal region right above Portugal. A wonderful discovery, and currently Spain’s most popular white wine. 90 POINTS – VINOUS: “displaying intense lime zest, green apple and herb qualities… juicy orchard and pit fruit flavors…. concentrated yet lively… a long, floral-tinged finish that shows no rough edges.” Delicious!

Honoro Vera Garnacha (Grenache) 2016, Calatayud – From 30-40 year old hillside vineyards with low yields, this fruit-forward crowd pleaser is an amazing value. 91 POINTS James Suckling (for years he was the #1 critic at Wine Spectator): “Bright, brambly appeal on the nose with redcurrant and raspberry fruits. The palate has a plush, fleshy and saturated feel to it, with succulent tannins. Drink now.”

Juan Gil “Silver Label” Monastrell (Mourvedre) 2015, Jumilla – Founded in 1916, the Juan Gil winery is located in the heart of Jumilla located near Spain’s temperate Mediterranean Coast. 91+ POINTS- Robert Parker: “Fresh and approachable, with berries, Mediterranean herbs and balsamic notes, quite intense… very tasty…. fine tannins, good balance and freshness.” Consistently excellent, and 2015 is reputed to be the best vintage of the decade!

Bodegas Morca “Godina” Garnacha (Grenache) 2015, Campo de Borja- Located in the Campo de Borja region adjacent to Rioja, Bodegas Morca meticulously crafts intensely flavorful wines from old Grenache vines. The resulting wine is deep purple in color with intense aromas of cassis, spices, and plums. Plush and concentrated flavors of red cherry, raspberry and currants are enhanced with 15 months of aging in French oak which add hints of spice and vanilla and velvety tannins. This high-octane Garnacha exhibits exceptional purity and richness with wonderful balance.

Clio 2015, Jumilla – Located in Jumilla, the vineyards of Bodegas El Nido produce very small yields of intensely flavorful grapes. Some of the Monastrell vines are over a century old! The exceptional 2015 “Clio” is 30% Cabernet and 70% Monastrell. Rare and highly allocated, the wines of Bodegas El Nido have been rated 91 – 97 Points for the past 13 consecutive years by acclaimed wine critics. Inky dark purple in color, the 2015 offers bold blackberry fruit aromas enhanced by notes of toasted coffee, licorice, and spicy oak. 24 months aging in French and American oak add supple vanilla and spice notes to the potent black fruit flavors. 92+ POINTS – Robert Parker: “2015 is a very complete and balanced year, resulting in classic, powerful wines with concentration and balance, and all that is needed to age in bottle”. One of Spain’s “cult classics”!
