Sommelier Marcelino Cosio with Young’s Market will be pouring his hand picked great South African wines for $19.99. The tasting includes complimentary Beef Lasagna sided with Petite Salad.

South African wine has a history dating back to 1659 with Constantia, a vineyard near Cape Town. Production is concentrated around Cape Town.
The Stellenbosch district is the second oldest wine region in South Africa. First planted in 1679, Stellenbosch is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) east of Cape Town. The region is surrounded by the Helderberg, Simonsberg and Stellenbosch Mountains and receives some climatic influences from nearby False Bay. The bay tempers the climate and keeps average temperatures during the summer growing season to around 20 °C (68 °F), just slightly warmer than Bordeaux. Vineyard soil types range from decomposed granite on the hillside near the mountains to sandy, alluvial loam in the valleys near the rivers.

Chenin Blanc is South Africa’s most widely planted varietal and the Cape’s signature white. This fresh, easy-drinking version offers vibrant flavors of honeyed pear, golden delicious apple and luscious tropical fruit.

L’Avenir Stellenbosch Pinotage 2009
Pinotage is a red wine grape that is South Africa’s signature variety. It was bred there in 1925 as a cross between Pinot noir and Cinsaut It typically produces deep red varietal wines with smoky, bramble and earthy flavors, sometimes with notes of bananas and tropical fruit.

2009 is an excetional vintage for Pinotage with long maturation potential – an abundance of ripe berry fruits, dark plums and juicy black cherries rounded off with a milk chocolate creaminess; delicate, well-structured tannins and a medium-full body. Very graceful on the midpalate, with a long finish soaking the tongue.

Indaba Western Cape Red Blend Mosaic 2016
This Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Bordeaux blend offers enticing aromas and succulent flavors of blackcurrant, ripe brambly berry fruit and dark chocolate, with subtle spice notes. Soft, gentle tannins coat the palate on the balanced finish.

DeMorgenzon DMZ Syrah 2012
Deep, purple core. Rich, berry fruit nose with lots of ripe, red plum and whiffs of white pepper. Some floral notes in the background, including violets, lavender and spring blossoms. Full in the mouth with tremendous youthful vigour. Layers of berry fruit with developing spices of pepper, cinnamon, clove and vanilla.

Raats Stellenbosch Cabernet Franc 2014
Founded in 2001, Raats Family Wines is focused solely on crafting world class Chenin Cabernet Franc, best known as the premier grapes of France’s Loire Valley. The boutique winery has quickly established itself as a New World leader in the production of these two varietals, garnering tremendous critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base.
The Wine Advocate – “The 2014 Family Cabernet Franc comes from the Raats family’s oldest and highest vineyard grown in cooler conditions. It has an open and energetic aniseed-tinged bouquet that blossoms in the glass, hints of allspice and clove emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious, smooth entry, perhaps a little more nimble on its toes compared to the 2013, with touches of oregano and white pepper sprinkled over the long finish. Whilst a different stylistic proposition to the 2013, it has just as much to offer.” 93 Points – Robert Parker
