Introduction
Ballentine Family run deep beneath the soils of Napa Valley where they continue to farm our 100 plus year old estate vineyards and produce wonderful wines that are true expressions of the terroir. They are one of the few old, small family wineries in Napa Valley. Founded by immigrants from Italy, Libero Pocai, and from Ireland, John Ballentine, it has been owned and operated by four generations since 1906, yet still remains a hidden gem. Today, Van and Betty Ballentine (third generation) and their son Frank Ballentine continue to build on the legacy of respect for the land and enjoyment of the wines as a family. The current vineyards that contribute to Ballentine Vineyards are the old Pocai Vineyard near Calistoga, The Crystal Springs Vineyards near the base of Howell Mountain and Betty’s Vineyard which is next to the winery and the 100-year-old Ballentine home. They have been selling their grapes for many years to wineries: Cabernet Sauvignon to Caymus, Cabernet Franc to Rombauer, Zinfandel to Rosenblum, Ravenswood and Mondavi. So Ballentine is a family winery in every sense of the word, with a long family history rooted in Napa Valley.

Ballentine Pocai Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2016
Ballentine is well known for their Chenin Blanc and are one of the few Napa Valley wineries to produce this varietal. This white wine, 100% Chenin Blanc, express vivid aromas of stone fruit, green apple, lemon, tangerine peel and white flowers. On the palate this wine feels fresh and crisp, fruit forward with pear, peach, honeydew and nice citrus notes. The finish is dry with citrus herbal notes and hints of floral that lingers. Great companion for white fish, shellfish, crustaceans and chicken with citrus and herbal sauces.

Ballentine Old Vine Zinfandel 2014
The old vines Zinfandel comes from the eastern-most side of our Pocai Vineyard in Napa Valley. The 2014 Zinfandel’s color has a deep purple intensity. This Zinfandel has blueberry/blackberry components, as well as some bright raspberry spiciness. This vintage is exceptionally floral; it has classic flavors of black cherry, clove, and fresh rose petals. The palate’s nature is a silky texture, with the bold flavors of black cherry and raspberry. Very jammy, our old vine Zinfandel is complimented by flavors of vanilla and cranberries. The wine has well balanced acidity, and an extremely long finish. Cherries and raspberry flavors last for a while. 90 Points, Wine Enthusiast

Ballentine Pocai Vineyard Merlot 2015
Just released from Ballentine’s premium Pocai Vineyard location, in one of the warmest locations in the Napa Valley. A big, luxurious Merlot packed with aromas of raspberry, cherry, plum and apple; this wine is a cornucopia of fruits. Big rounded tannins and fruit-forward flavors help make this a Cabernet drinker’s style Merlot. The true fruit of this wine is accented by the vanilla spices and toast from oak. There is good weight on the palate and a rich velvety texture. It has a luscious black cherry and raspberry flavor that is concentrated and full and jammy. The wine finishes with nice fresh fruits and characters of caramel, vanilla and framboise. Enjoy this versatile wine with steak, poultry or other light meats, but to be honest we have no problem sitting back and enjoying it on its own.

Ballentine Cabernet Franc 2014
The 2014 Cabernet Franc has the most floral notes been seen in years. The nose is brimming with blueberry and raspberry jam. There is a scent reminiscent of maple syrup and cinnamon giving the wine an intense aromatic play. The palate is full and rich with some tannin in the mid palate giving the wine some good weight. There are cherries and berries along with toast and caramel flavors. The finish mellows and the wine is smooth at the end. Flavors of raspberry and black cherry linger on the tongue for a long time.

Ballentine Petite Verdot 2013
Planted in Ballentine’s Fig Tree Vineyard located at the north-east edge of the St. Helena appellation. Cherries, blueberries and shortcake come to mind when you first dive into this glass. Petit Verdot always has an exotic floral side, and there are hints of coffee and dried fruits. This wine is a true teeth stainer. A big wine that has loads of textures and flavors. Our Petit Verdot has a complex palate anchored in cherries and maple syrup. This is a well structure wine throughout, and the unique characteristics of this vineyard make this wine big and voluptuous at the same time. 91 Points, Wine Advocate

Ballentine Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
The best of Ballentine’s vineyards are combined in this wine – classic big, bold Napa Cabernet Sauvignon beautifully structured with a dense purple color packed with aromas of cherry, blueberry, clove, and vanilla. The wine reveals itself in layers of raspberry, clove, licorice and pepper. The palate mirrors the nose with its fruit forward style nuanced by the complex spice. This Cabernet is very full on the palate, and has well rounded and full tannin. The soft acidity and silky voluptuous finish let the wine’s finish linger for quite some time. This wine is great now, but should mature well for 25 years to come. 90 Points, Wine Advocate
