Introduction

Three generations of the Bianchi family, dating back to 1974, have a long history of involvement in the wine industry. Starting with a winery and vineyard on the banks of the San Joaquin River in the Central Valley of California utilizing the most advanced farming and production technologies, the Bianchi family quickly grew to become an industry leader, producing award winning wines. After searching throughout California for the finest terroir to meet the ambition of producing ultra-premium wines that delivered finesse and complexity, the family settled on Paso Robles. Today, with its “Heritage Collection” wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel and “Signature Collection” wines including Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, it is considered one of the best Paso Robles wineries.

Bianchi Signature Selection Pinot Grigio 2014 – The Cool marine-influenced Santa Maria/Santa Barbara vineyard site produces young wines sporting citrus notes whilst aging in the bottle to exotic flavors of sweet flowers and tropical fruit compote. By optimizing ripening of flavors and acid balance, it encourages the rather yummy fruit compote aromas and flavors to escape your glass.

Bianchi Heritage Selection Syrah 2013 – Vintage 2013 is the second harvest solely emphasizing Bianchi Estate Creekside Ranch fruit. Harvest was early-ish in 2013 for a change, allowing flavor, seed and sugar ripeness with a more balanced acid structure. Fruit crushed to tank and encouraged the special Andante yeast to transform the viniferous mass into wine of substantial feel and flavors. Andante is a yeast that maintains fruitiness due to its inability to produce the nasty hydrogen sulfide odor (rotten egg). Also the time doubled on skins before pressing to allow a silkier feel to the tactile tannins and resolve the Syrah blueberry/cranberry characters. On the scale of Bianchi heartiness, the Syrah comes in heavier than Pinot Noir and lighter than Petite Sirah. Often enjoy Bianchi Syrah with several meaty food pairings. Soy sauce marinated, braised pork belly is just one that comes to mind.

Bianchi Signature Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 – Vintage 20 12 was in a word lovely. After over 2-years’ maturation in oak barrels, the tasting panel decided on an all Cab blend of about a third Estate fruit with two thirds from their good friends, the Plummer’s. This blend shows it all: color, fruit and tannins, in a word lovely. If you’d like more words perhaps you’ll taste: tobacco, clove, coco, green peppercorn and leather from the barrel-aged Plummer fruit, with hints of dark blackberry and cherry from their clone 8 Estate fruit. Ah the layers of lovely aromas and flavors. Fresh-crushed red currant aromas mix with dried purple flowers and mocha on the nose of this bottling. The flavors are very evenly presented, ripe and round with black plum fruit and a touch of fig-laced balsamic vinegar.

Bianchi Heritage Selection Zen Ranch Zin 2012 – For vintage 2012, continuing with blending in Primitivo for its kiss of darker color and tannin structure, this adds a lovely, up-front fruiry taste to the Estate Zen Zin. Part of this blend is head-trained unirrigated Zinfandel Deaver clone adding its deeper berry towards prune flavors. The better part of 2 years barrel-aging has allowed for spicy-vanilla/clove nuance additions and marriage with the rampant cherry/raspberry/cinnamon flavors. So many layers of subtle flavors just keep on a-comin’. Ripe, jammy aromas of raspberry and cherry are followed by spicy notes of fennel and white pepper. Full bodied and robust, concentrated blackberry and mocha flavors lead to a lingering, silky aftertaste.

Bianchi Signature Selection Petit Sirah 2011 – After an extended 3 years in barrel, it is transferred and blended up an exquisite Petite of very dark plum and brick hues with flavors of flora plum, vanilla, and earth tones and a touch-o-plum and blueberry flavors as well as a chalky tannin feel with some of the Estate Syrah for the final blend; Layers of Flavors, the modus operandi. This vintage is tru[y a foodfriend[y Petite reflecting the resolved tannins from extended barrel aging.
