Iron Horse “Year of the Monkey” Chinese Cuvee 2010 – Iron Horse is one of Sonoma County’s most beautiful, small, independent, estate, family-owned wineries. It is located in cool, foggy Green Valley. A pioneer in the Green Valley appellation within the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County, the Iron Horse family is building a legacy of prestige sparkling wines and estate bottled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The 2010 Chinese Cuvee has nose of rising dough, orange marmalade and baked apple, with palate of ripe red apple, Mandarin orange and hazelnut. Focused, complex and brut-level dry with precise, pinpoint bubbles. Pairs beautifully with the diverse flavors and textures of Chinese cuisine – pot stickers, dumplings, egg rolls, sea bass steamed with mushrooms and scallions, vegetable stir fry, shrimp fried rice, roast duck, Szechuan style spareribs, and fortune cookies, of course.
Gerard Bertrand Cotes De Roses Rose 2014 – Gerard Bertrand was born and raised in the South of France. Making wine with his father, Georges, since the age of 10, Gerard Bertrand offers the full range and diversity of wines from the region – red, white, rose, varietal, appellation, estate, still, sparkling, and dessert. Every wine evokes the image and emotions from the South of France; “Art de Vivre” – the “art of life.” The 2014 Cotes De Rose has soft, pale, brilliant pink with bluish tints developing over time towards more orangey nuances. The bouquet releases aromas of summer fruits, cassis and redcurrant. Floral notes of rose along with hints of grapefruit complete the picture. The finish is fresh, offering notes of candy. On the palate the impression is fresh and full, with great aromatic persistence and balance.
B.R. Cohn Pinot Noir 2010 – Winery founder, Bruce Cohn, took the advice of good friend and mentor Charlie Wagner from Caymus winery and began producing his own wines from the Olive Hill Estate in 1984. Charlie bestowed the greatest honor upon the winery, permitting the use of Caymus’ trademarked “Special Selection” on the best lots from B.R. Cohn Olive Hill Estate. B.R. Cohn Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon as well as the entire portfolio continues to receive amazing reviews and accolades. BR Cohn Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is produced from the finest vineyards in this appellation. It is a complex, lush wine with aromas of black cherry, raspberry and strawberry intermingled with a bouquet of toasty vanilla and spice. It is rich and smooth on the palate with a lasting finish. Aged for 19 months in only the finest French Burgundy barrels.
Lockwood Liquid Velvet Red Blend 2011 – Located in Monterey County, on the 1850-acre parcel of calcarious soil (called “Lockwood Shaly Loam”), Lockwood Vineyard was planted in 1981, and started producing in 1989. Lockwood is dedicated to estate bottling and, as winemaker Stephan Pessagno puts it, “wine that is fruit-forward, has good acidity and balance, and complements the best of life’s food and wine experiences.” Deep and rich in color, Liquid Velvet Red Blend showcases aromas and flavors of dark, rich fruit such as cherry, a hint of dark cocoa and spice. It finishes with a velvety smooth texture, balanced structure and a satisfyingly long finish. The perfect pairing for a delicious grilled steak enjoyed by candlelight.
Terra Valentine Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 – Terra Valentine takes winemaking to a new level-about 2,100 feet above the Napa Valley. It is a winery that brings together a state-of-the-art fermentation system with the uncovered beauty of an artisan-constructed building-a colorful and well-hidden treasure of Spring Mountain history. The 2013 Napa Cab has blueberry, ripe black cherry and mulbery jam notes mingled on the nose with cocoa powder, cedar and spices with crushed sage. Bright juicy fruit greets the palate with round, rich, coating ¬flavors of black fruit and licorice and a soft lingering finish.
