Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world’s most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climates. It became internationally recognized through its prominence in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc It is among the premier red wine grapes in the world. It delivers wines that are high in tannin and are medium- to full-bodied. Simple Wine Guide considers as typical aroma in Cabernet Sauvignon the Black Currant (Cassis). Also characteristic are the vegetative notes of bell pepper and asparagus while occasional spice of black pepper is noticeable. When oaked, Cabernet Sauvignon provides woody notes of vanilla, smoked wood and cedar. Full maturity in the bottle surfaces earthy tones of leather, and mushroom.
Barrel 27 the Four Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 – Four friends got together to make this Napa Cab, with the help of Paso Robles winemakers Russell From of Herman Story and McPrice Myers of Barrel 27. The fruit is sourced from Krupp Brothers block 4 in Atlas Peak. The 2009 the Four Cabernet Sauvignon has a nose of cassis, black cherry, chocolate and vanilla and an appealing mouthful of blackberry, boysenberry, dark chocolate and distant oak. Maintains focus and firms on the finish, with snappy tannins giving the flavors traction.
75 Company Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 – The 75 Wine Company draws on a great foundation of inspiration, and was created as a conscious reflection of its belief in and commitment to the production of high quality, reasonably priced wines from the Napa Valley. 2013 is quickly becoming one the most lauded and anticipated vintages ever to come out of California and this wine is an example of the great wines produced during this spectacular vintage. This exceptionally rich yet balanced Cabernet Sauvignon expresses wonderful dense aromas of ripe burnt early season cherries and scorched earth. The palate showcases classic notes of sweet black cherry, cassis and black raspberry. Tannins are beautifully integrated into this multidimensional, full-bodied yet wonderfully balanced wine. Finish is exceptional and lingering. This wine can certainly be enjoyed now but will only get better with age.
Westerly Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 – Owner & visionary, Roger Bower, is on the cutting edge of an emerging movement in Santa Barbara County. He works closely with all aspects of farming and winemaking, ranch management, as well as sales and marketing. Roger lives on his property, Crown Point, which is located in the heart of the Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara AVA. At dawn and at dusk, he can frequently be seen riding his horses amongst the estate vineyards, fruit orchards, and olive groves. The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is classically styled, with currant, plum, cassis, and graphite notes on the palate. The nose shows herbal and cedar notes. This is a wine of substantial breadth, with mouth-coating finely-grained tannins. Structured and balanced, this wine will drink at its peak from 2014-2019.
Gundlach Bundschu Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 – Gundlach Bundschu Winery is a family-owned, sixth-generation producer of distinctive wines of site-specific character. The winery’s 320-acre Estate Vineyard, christened Rhinefarm in 1858, is located at the crossroads of the Sonoma Valley, Carneros and Napa Valley AVAs, at the base of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. The 2012 vintage was ideal for growing deep, dark and elegant cabernet sauvignon here on the western slopes of the Mayacamas. Intense aromas of fresh black currant, cacao, and a hint of dried tobacco are followed by a opulent flavors of cassis, blackberry, fresh currant and dark chocolate, layered with complex notes of espresso, anise and crushed stone. The texture is remarkably polished and velvety given the wine’s depth and power — all thanks to smooth, ripe tannins that draw to a long, lush finish. Delicious upon release; optimal cellaring time 5 to 15 years from vintage.
Branham Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 – Branham Estate Wines began in 1994 with the planting of the Branham Rockpile Vineyard. Purchased in 1989, the ranch consists of 410 acres of wilderness located in Northwest Sonoma County. In 1997, the Branham Obsidian Vineyard was purchased. These two vineyards represent the heart and soul of Branham Estate Wines. The first wine produced under the Branham label was the 1999 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. I am dedicated to producing high quality, hand-crafted wines, from estate grown grapes. Fruit from Obsidian vineyard comprises fifty-percent of the blend. The remaining fifty-percent is from the historic Taplin vineyard in St. Helena. Balanced tannins and acidity, with dark, layered fruit propel the elegance of this routinely excellent Napa Valley gem.
